Since America is a Republic, why does Bush claim to be spreading Democracy.?

The founding fathers felt that Democracy was the worse form of government because it always led to a dictatorship. That is why they formed America into a Republic with a Constitution at its heart. It is revealing that Bush is spreading "Democracy" while at the same time trampling on our Constitution that he was (ironically) sworn in to protect. Sounds like treason to me. Doesn't it you?
