How long did your babies growth spurt last?

my son is 6 weeks old and going through i growth spurt. it has been 4 days so far including today. for the past 3 days he has been stopping to sleep for 2 or 3 hours but today he has slept an hour and a half max! he falls asleep on the and when i put him down he sleeps for 10min max then cries for more . i do not want to top him up with formula! should i give him a dummy/pacifier to stop him feeding and to try and sleep? my feel so empty!
